Some people have one or both ears that seem too prominent to them. In fact, a significant number of people have this concern. If you find yourself looking in the mirror and pushing your ear or ears back against your scalp to make them look “better” or less obvious, then you may wish to learn about this procedure.
Otoplasty means “ear molding” and just refers to the technique where your ear contours can be improved surgically so that you feel better about the way they look. Sometimes it just means creating more of an ear “fold” so that they fold back better and on occasion it means setting the entire outer ear back closer to your head on one or both sides.
Either way, there’s a lot that can be done to improve the appearance of the ears if desired.
These procedures can sometimes be done awake or with intravenous sedation. Most wear a dressing over the treated ear for a few days or more for gentle pressure during the initial healing. Full activities are possible soon after.
